I can’t believe my little baby has turned 2!!! What a journey these last 2 years have been. They have been joyful and stressful at the same time. My little cutey pie…my last one in diapers…my baby…is growing up. She makes us all laugh with the funny things she says and does. We love you sweetie!

So it’s that time of year again, when I’m reminded that I’m aging. With my 20′s being a distant memory, the cold hard reality that I’m not the foxy young chic I used to be can get to me if I let it. It helps to know that my husband still thinks I’m beautiful, even though the wrinkles have started to form, and the varicose veins are now showing there ugly selves. I have to remind myself that inner beauty is what is most important, and that having a sense of humor, a ready smile, and a grateful heart are the lasting qualities that make me beautiful to others.

So, in celebration of my birth, my wonderful children and husband decided to bake and decorate a cake for me. I love them dearly, and I am truly blessed.

December Madness

Actually, December really wasn’t madness for us. Because we don’t celebrate Christmas, we didn’t have the stress of shopping, parties, gifts, decorations, etc. We just celebrated life as a crazy, four kid family. Thankfully, we had a lot of warm weather, so we could enjoy the outdoors all month. Did I mention we love Tennessee?

Haircuts

The girls had been bugging me for weeks about chopping their hair. They wanted it short, “Up to my ears!” they told me. Well, I drug my feet long enough, and finally agreed, but not to their ears. It brought back terrible memories of when I was 6 years old and got the dreaded bob haircut. My aunt cut it way shorter than I had asked, and my beautiful long tresses became a wavy boy do. I actually cried. I wasn’t ready to reenact that day from the other side of the scissors. So, I cut about 6 inches off, and they absolutely love it.

It was definitely time to update our family photo. Because we didn’t have mom here to snap the pic, I set up the tripod and oh so gracefully ran to sit down before the timer ran out. Surprisingly, we only had to take 4 pictures before we got the perfect one. Good job kiddos for saying “Cheeeeeesssseee.”

Fall Family Fun

We have definitely enjoyed fall time here in TN. The weather some days can be sunny and 70 and other days be rainy and 40. But, overall it seems that fall time is a lot longer than in MI, which means enjoying the outdoors for longer. Not to mention, the colors here are unbelievable in the mountains.

American Heritage Girls

Wanting our girls to meet and interact with others girls their own age, we decided to enroll them in a group called American Heritage Girls. As a unit, we work on different projects in order to earn badges. The girls have met many new friends and have learned a lot as well.

Cherohala Skyway – October 10

Not wanting to miss the incredible colors of the fall season, we decided to take a drive through the Cherohala Skyway that runs through the Smokies and into North Carolina. What perfect timing! Because of the higher elevations, the color was at its peak. We stopped off at one of the many turn-offs to eat our picnic lunch, then later stopped to walk a short trail.

Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze – October 7

We visited a place called Life Down on the Farm. It was a corn maze/pumpkin patch/farm all in one in Powell, TN. We all had a blast riding on the various kiddie rides, finding our way through the winding maze, petting the baby animals, playing in the corn box, beating Andy at a sand bag toss (oh yeah), jumping on a huge jumper thingy, riding on a hay ride (without the hay, what?) and picking out a pumpkin. I believe it was super hot that day, but we still had a grand time.
